The Mary E. Sullivan House - Circa 1892
The victorian era two story home was built for the Silver King Mine Coalition, superintentent James R. Sullivan, and his wife Mary in 1892. Destined to be lost forever Douglas Stephens purchased the building in the late 1980s with the hopes of saving it from eminent demolition.

Doug moved the house to a lot just 75 feet south to Main Street. In the new location, the house was stabilized with a new foundation and footings, sited at the same elevation at which it sat originally.

Planning, permitting, financing, and the moving phase of the project took six years to complete.With careful attention to detail and creative innovation, Doug began restoring the home in 1994. Upgraded structurally to meet current building code, the house was fitted with new mechanical and electrical systems. The interior casework, cabinets, and windows were custom milled to replicate the originals.

As viewed from the street, the exterior is also original and the entire house was manually sanded then the paint was brushed on by hand. The exterior paint colors and patterns are consistent with the Victorian styles popular when the house was built.

The Mary E. Sullivan House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has been featured on HGTV's Homes Across America program.
